Piano lessons in Nashua and Concord, NH

Piano teacher Anita Yu in her Nashua, NH studio
Thank you so much for always putting so much into helping my daughter prepare for her performances.

It’s amazing to me how much she has grown as a musician since beginning lessons with you.

Anita Yu has taught piano in New Hampshire for nearly 20 years. She teaches at her private studio in Nashua, at the Concord Community Music School in Concord, and online to students anywhere. Both studios have Steinway grand pianos.

Her students range from first-time beginners to advanced pianists preparing for competitions, auditions, and Royal Conservatory examinations, and she takes all ages. The aim is the same either way: real musicianship, and a love of playing that lasts, held to a serious standard.

That commitment shows in how her students do. They have placed in national and state competitions, succeeded in auditions, and earned top marks in board examinations:

  • First place, high school division, Granite State Piano Competitions

  • First place, junior division, Granite State Piano Competitions

  • First place, Crescendo International Competition

  • Third place, elementary division, Granite State Piano Competitions

  • Third place, Chopin International Piano Competition

  • Debussy Award, Piano Extravaganza!, University of Rhode Island

  • Honorable mention, division 2, Steinway Society Piano Competition

  • Honorable mention, New England Piano Teachers' Association Intermediate I recital

  • First class honors with distinction, highest score in New Hampshire, Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations

  • Performances at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and the Ip Piano School Concerto Concert

For students who'd rather learn from home, Anita offers virtual piano lessons from a studio set up properly for it: a Steinway grand, multiple HD cameras, a professional microphone, and a fast connection. It comes close to being in the room.

Anita holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College of Rider University. She studied with Louise Goss, Phyllis Lehrer, Ena Barton, and Michael Lewin of the Boston Conservatory. She has performed in Boston, New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Vancouver, and has been on the faculties of the Community Music Center of Boston, St. Paul's School, and the New School for Music Study.

Virtual piano lessons

Anita offers virtual piano lessons to students anywhere, taught live from a studio built for online teaching. A Steinway grand, multiple high-definition cameras angled on the hands and keyboard, a professional microphone, and a fast, stable connection mean she can see and hear exactly what a student is doing, the way she would in person.

Online teaching is its own skill, and it's one she has spent years refining. She keeps lessons active and personal on screen: watching technique closely, catching what needs fixing, and pushing each student the same way she would in the room.
